Saving Money On 10 Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 Winners

If you are a beauty lover then you have probably heard of the Allure Best Of Beauty Awards that started in the mid 90’s. These awards were launched by the American women’s magazine, Allure, to help their readers choose among the many makeup, skincare, and haircare products that are launched each year. Winners in each category are awarded the much coveted “best of beauty” seal which they can advertise on their products and include as part of their brand. Since the introduction of these awards, the categories have grown tremendously with winners now being identified in such areas as “clean” beauty or luxury splurges.

As a beauty fanatic, I eagerly await the release of the annual award winners. I love to see if I am already using any of the acclaimed products and I also start to make my wish list of the items I want to try next. There are over 100 winners identified each year so financially it doesn’t make sense for me to try them all. Instead, I pick the products that truly intrigue me and start my hunt to find the best deal on these products. Here is a list of 10 Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 award winners and where to get the best deal on these products in Canada.

Best Cleansing Toner

1) Best Cleansing Toner – Thayers Rose Petal Facial Toner

I have actually been using this toner for over a year now and I was thrilled to see it as winner of the Allure Best Of Beauty in 2020. I absolutely love it! In addition to the scent which is divine, this toner does a fantastic job of removing any makeup or impurities that may have been missed by my cleanser even after a double cleanse. In light of its new found fame, this toner seems to have taken quite a price increase at both Amazon and Walmart which now retail it for almost $17. I am happy to report that I have had success finding alternative sources with more competitive pricing.

Best Place To Buy: Healthy Planet for $13.99 (at the time of this post the Toner was on sale for $11.99)!

Best Full Coverage Foundation

2) Best Full Coverage Foundation – Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Longwear Foundation Stick

I am obsessed with foundation sticks. They are easy to apply and I love their compact size for travel or throwing in my purse. I own a dozen different foundation sticks from a variety of brands but have yet to try the Lancôme one. I was blown away to see that it beat out all other full coverage foundations to win in this category. It is now on my wish list and I will definitely be adding it to my collection this year. When it comes to Lancôme products, there is no better place buy them in Canada than on the Lancôme Canadian website. They run amazing deals frequently and have some great gifts with purchase.

Best Skin Splurge

3) Best Skin Splurge – SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum

I am sure we have all heard of this award winning vitamin C serum which many Dermatologists, celebrities, and beauty gurus swear by. It features a combination of 15% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid. The claims are that using this consistently will result in firmer skin, reduced signs of aging, and an overall brighter complexion. The product is a result of 40 years of academic research and is backed by over 20 international dermatological publications that speak to its safety and efficacy. There are very few negative reviews out there except when it comes to its price. A 30ml bottle retails for $190 Canadian and typically only has a shelf life of three months once opened. I have decided that 2021 will be the year I take the plunge and try this product out. I have researched it enough that I know exactly where to buy it.

Best Place To Buy: Beautysense.ca is a Canadian online retailer of beauty products. They are authorized dealers of SkinCeuticals products and they offer 15% off all SkinCeuticals products at least twice a year (typically June and November). See my review of Beautysense here.

Best Lip Gloss

4) Best Lip Gloss – Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil Infused Gloss

I am a lip gloss fanatic so when I saw that the Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 winner in this category belonged to a brand I loved I couldn’t figure out why I haven’t tried this already. This lip gloss contains a blend of nutrient- rich botanical oils resulting in a moisturizing and non-sticky formula. It has incredible reviews on Sephora and was also the recipient of the Harper’s Bazaar Anti-Aging Award for best lip tint in 2020. I have a lot of Bobbi Brown products and there is only one place I ever buy them – the Bobbi Brown Canadian website. They run sitewide sales frequently and there is usually a generous gift with purchase.

Best Pencil Eyeliner

5) Best Pencil Eyeliner – IT Cosmetics Superhero No-Tug Gel Liner

I have recently given up on pencil eyeliners as I feel like they are rough on the eyes and you really need to pull on the eye to get the desired effect. This is especially true if you are working with softer and less bold shades. I hate tugging on my eyes and I have convinced myself that this will only contribute to wrinkles. Plus, it just doesn’t feel good. When I saw that this IT Cosmetics Gel Liner made the list I was immediately intrigued. No tug? Could it be true? I decided that I need to put this to the test for myself and it is now on my wish list.

Best Line Smoothing Eye Cream

6) Best Line Smoothing Eye Cream – RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream

If you Google “best anti-aging eye creams” you will notice that this product appears on almost every eye cream list and has rave reviews. Forbes, Good Housekeeping, People, Glamour, and a ton of other magazines have all deemed this eye cream the best for aging concerns and fine lines. It was no surprise that it came up on the Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 list. I have known about this eye cream for a very long time and I have been absolutely dying to try it. The only problem? It has not been available in Canada until now! I recently did a search for this RoC Eye Cream in Canada and looks like it is available at Walmart Canada and coming to the Canadian online retailer, Well.ca, soon!

Best Place To Buy: Okay…this is a tough one because I love supporting Canadian businesses and would prefer to give my business to Well.ca. The problem is that the product retails for $29.97 at Walmart Canada and $39.99 at Well.ca which is a big price difference. Well.ca does frequently runs sales and events where you can get 20% off of all beauty items. See my review and the sales schedule for Well.ca here. The choice is yours!

Best Powder Blush

7) Best Powder Blush – Clarins Joli Blush

Blush has definitely been making a comeback as it has not always been the sexiest or most popular cosmetic. In the last few years and with the onset of new blush formulations (i.e. cream), it has really been an area of focus for many beauty brands. I have always been a blush lover. In fact, there are two items that I will typically never leave the house without; blush and lip balm. When I saw that the Clarins Blush was an Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 Award Winner I was a bit shocked and intrigued. It is not really talked about much in the beauty circles I am in and other brands like Clinique and Hourglass seem to be more popular. Nonetheless, it is now on my wish list and I need to see what the fuss is about. You can find Clarins at many retailers in Canada, but Clarins has a great Canadian website that offers competitive promotions, the most generous sample sizes and a decent loyalty program.

Best Lip Balm

8) Best Lip Balm/Mask – Flower Beauty Petal Pout Lip Mask

Flower Beauty is a cruelty-free budget cosmetics line that was started by celebrity actress, Drew Barrymore, in 2013. It was launched in Canada in 2014 and was exclusively available at Walmart. By 2016, however, the brand departed Canada and was no longer available at Walmart. In 2019, the line was picked up by Well.ca in Canada which means we can now get our hands on Flower Beauty’s Award Winning Lip Mask. I am a lip balm junkie and when I saw that Flower Beauty won in this category I knew that I had to try it. Currently, it is exclusively available at Well.ca and with their frequent sales there is really no better place to buy it (at the time of this post the lip balm was on sale for $5 from $12.99)!

Best Place To Buy: Well.ca of course! See my review and the sales schedule for Well.ca here.

Best Clarifying Mask

9) Best Clarifying Mask – Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask

Masks have become a big part of my life especially given this pandemic and all the time at home. It is a great way to self-care, pamper yourself, and take care of your skin. I typically pick a mask depending on what my skin needs (i.e. hydration, anti-aging, etc) but a purifying or clarifying mask is a must and part of my weekly skincare regime. I own pore cleansing masks from many different brands such as Origins and GLAMGLOW but have never given this Kiehl’s one much thought. It is a clay mask that is for normal to oily skin (that is me) and is a bestseller according to Kiehl’s. It is now on my wish list and although Kiehl’s is widely available in Canada I know I will get the best price purchasing it online from the brand directly.

Best Curling Iron

10) Best Curling Wand – Kristin Ess Beach Waves 1″ Curling Iron

Kristin Ess is a haircare line started by celebrity hairstylist and colourist, Kristen Ess. It was launched in 2017 as a collaboration with Target in the U.S. and marketed as a luxury haircare line at affordable prices. Between the sleek packaging and great prices, the product line took off and is now worth over $100M! As a result of its success, the brand has since expanded into new markets including Canada where their products are exclusively available at Well.ca. There were actually two Kristin Ess products that won an Allure Best Of Beauty 2020 Award but I was immediately drawn to this curling iron. I use one regularly to give my hair waves and I was impressed with the price point and reviews of this specific one.

Best Place To Buy: Well.ca again (at the time of this post this Kristin Ess Curling Iron was 20% off and sold out). See my review and the sales schedule for Well.ca here.
