8 Non-Canadian Brands That Recognize Canadian Holidays With Beauty Deals
Over this past week, both Canada and the U.S. celebrated a statutory holiday. There was Victoria Day in Canada and Memorial Day in the States. As with a lot of holidays, brands from all industries capitalized on the occasion with a major sale or deal. Given the nature of this blog, I obviously had my eye on all the beauty deals out there. One of the things that truly stood out is that there were way more deals in commemoration of Memorial Day than Victoria Day. I wasn’t at all shocked by this given the higher proportion of beauty brands with American roots. What really impressed me, however, were the non-Canadian beauty brands that acknowledged Victoria Deal and offered a deal. As a Canadian consumer, it makes you feel important and levels the playing field in getting the same deals and discounts as our American counterparts. Here are 8 non-Canadian beauty brands that recognize Canadian holidays with generous deals and promotions.
1) Clinique
Clinique, a subsidiary of the Estée Lauder Company, made its debut in 1968 as the world’s first allergy tested and 100% fragrance free line in the beauty industry. It first appeared at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York with 117 products. The brand has since grown and today all products are free from parabens, pthalates, and fragrance. Despite their roots, Clinique has created a Canadian website which literally runs a 30% off sale almost every month. They recognize a majority of Canadian holidays including Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Canadian Thanksgiving and all of these are accompanied with a lucrative beauty deal. Thank you Clinique! 2) Missha
Missha is one of the most popular Korean brands and it was first launched online in the year 2000 with no storefronts. After numerous reviews of the brand’s products, Missha’s sales grew rapidly and stores became a part of their strategy. In less than two decades after their inception and with more than 500 stores all over the world, Missha has reached unprecedented heights far beyond Korea. Their iconic Time Revolution Essence has reached over 10 million consumers while their best selling BB Cream has sold over a 100 million units worldwide. Missha is readily available in Canada on a number of sites but nothing beats their Canadian website when it comes to deals. They hold a 20% off sale called “Missha Day” every month, and sales of up to 50% off every year in July and December. They also advertise product deals weekly and they never miss a beat when it comes to celebrating Canadian holidays.
3) Smashbox
Smashbox is a cosmetics company that was founded in a photo studio in Los Angeles in 1996. Known for their primers, foundations, and lipsticks (all cruelty free), they pride themselves on making high quality products that look beautiful both in front and behind of the camera. Smashbox can easily be found in Canada but the best deals are on Smashbox’s relatively new Canadian website which offers great promotions, gifts with purchase, and free shipping. Way to go Smashbox! They have sitewide sales almost monthly and they never neglect their Canadian neighbours with deals to celebrate every Canadian holiday. Click here to check out the schedule for their sales.
4) Babor
Babor is a German skincare company that was founded in 1956 by the chemist, Dr. Michael Babor. He was the first to use hydrophilic oils in skincare products and use the natural cleansing properties of oil and water. The brand debuted with a cleanser called HY-OIL which continues to be a best seller today. Babor was later bought by the prominent Vossen family who took the brand global and turned it into a worldwide success. Babor remains a family-owned company and their signature product is the ampoule. Each of their glass ampoules contains the perfect amount of the active ingredient needed to achieve skincare goals. I am proud to say that Babor has a Canadian website and they are another great example of a non-Canadian brand that recognizes Canadian holidays with beauty deals.
5) Biotherm
Biotherm is a French skincare company that was formed in 1952 after a young visionary woman added thermal plankton from mountain springs in France to her skincare formulations. The brand was later acquired by L’Oréal in 1970 and has quickly grown by expanding its product line and entering new markets. Biotherm can easily be found in Canada at many retailers but their Canadian website really is the place to get the best deals with their very active promotions. They are also diligent in celebrating Canadian holidays with great sales and offers. You can find their sales schedule here.
6) IT Cosmetics
IT Cosmetics was founded in 2008 in California in a response to the Founder not being able to find products that solved her beauty concerns. It has developed into a makeup and skincare company that works with plastic surgeons to develop “clinically proven, innovative, problem-solving products that harness cutting-edge, anti-aging technologies and skin-loving ingredients.” It has since grown worldwide and has won multiple beauty awards especially for their “Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream.” IT Cosmetics has a great Canadian website and the volume of deals they run are endless. These include competitive promotions honouring Canadian holidays. Check out their sales schedule here.
7) La Roche Posay
La Roche Posay is a skincare company that was discovered in France in 1975 and is renowned for the use of Thermal Spring Water in their products. The brand has been recognized by the scientific community for its skincare properties thanks to its high content of Selenium, a rare and powerful natural antioxidant. La Roche Posay can be found around the world and is easily accessible in Canada in Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, and other stores. The best place to shop though is their very own Canadian website where they regularly run promotions and celebrate Canadian holidays with beauty deals. Click here to see their full sales schedule.
8) Vichy
Vichy is a French skincare brand that was created in 1931 by a medical director of the thermal treatment center in Vichy, France. He was the first to discover the therapeutic benefits of Vichy Thermal Water which originated over 2,000 years ago in the heart of Auvergne’s volcanoes. The water was found to improve skin quality, soothe sensitivity, and accelerate the healing of skin wounds. Today, Vichy Thermal Water is still sourced from the same location in France, and is at the core of all Vichy Skin Care formulations. Given the brand’s history, there are not many people who have not heard of this brand and it can be found globally including Canada. Without question, the best place to buy Vichy in Canada is from their Canadian website which not only has regular promotions but celebrates every Canadian holiday with a lucrative deal.
